This is your opportunity to follow in Charles Darwin’s footsteps as you voyage by boat through the Galápagos Islands, spotting the region’s epic wildlife (including the giant tortoises) along the way. Take in the classic Cuzco by horseback and rest your head in the Sacred Valley before heading to the Ruins of Wiñay Wayna. Trek through some of South America’s finest trails and mountain ridges in sub-tropical climates along the renowned Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
Your South American adventure begins in the historic centre of Quito, the capital of Ecuador that stretches across the almighty Andean valley making for utterlybreath-taking viewpoints. You are in the core of the world’s longest mountain range meaning you’re encircled by intense volcanic peaks, so we will arrange a visit to Cotopaxi, Ecuador’s second highest summit, before you head to your Galápagos discovery trip.
The Galápagos Islands embodies the birthplace of modern evolutionary theory and on top of that, they happen to be gorgeous, with a backdrop as diverse as the wildlife. Your very own floating home is on-board a catamaran boat. It gives you flexibility and get you up close and personal with some truly unique wildlife. Our expert guides are thoroughly knowledgeable on the aquatic and land animals and of course the entire landscape and its inhabitants. Throughout, your yacht will anchor in the various bays for a spot of snorkelling and a chance to see the flourishing underwater world around the islands. Have lunch on the deck after a morning snorkel, and watch bottlenose dolphins frolic in the ship’s wake—all rare experiences and very much a part of the Galápagos’ splendour.
Leaving the Galápagos Islands behind, we head for Lima, a cosmopolitan city with its overwhelming diversity, definitely a fast track back to civilization! A capital founded by Spanish conquistadors that subsequently exploded with influxes from Asia and then from Peru’s own Andean highlands, it has remained a city of culture mixing and contrast. The most popular street food is “five flavors” a rice and pasta dish with Italian, Chinese, Andean, Japanese and African influences. Sushi and ceviche chefs are learning from one another. Lima’s cuisine is rapidly gaining worldwide recognition for its freshness and creativity. For you, it means days of exploring neighborhoods and attractions with distinct cultures and histories, interspersed with the spicy, sweet, and subtle gastronomic experience of how it all comes together.
At a breath-taking altitude of 3,300m above sea level, you’ll take an easy landing into Cuzco. Upon arrival, be whisked to a centrally located former monastery which is your residence for tonight. Here you will have a chance to freshen up before your expert private guide take you on a short walking tour of this ancient former Inca capital. Setting out from Cuzco, either travel by vehicle to the Sacred Valley of the Incas visiting indigenous markets and archaeological sites or explore the hills, valleys and villages surrounding Cuzco by horseback. End the evening in the Scared Valley at your luxurious mountain retreat which breathes an air of tranquility & relaxation.
The following day is the start of your next challenge, the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Departing from the Scared Valley on the legendary Hiram Bingham train. We will specially arrange a stop before the train reaches Machu Picchu where you begin your trek through the spectacular valley through the cloud foreto the Ruins of Winay Wayna.
