Often referred to as Little Tibet, Kashmir is one of the scarce places on earth which is essentially still untouched and unexplored. This sanctuary is one of India’s best kept secrets that Journeys by Chance can’t help but let you in on. Embrace the serene calmness of the brisk mountain air without a care in the world and stroll through the ancient hills on this stunning trip of discovery.
Touch down in India’s vibrant capital that is home to many historical and cultural heights. Spend the day exploring both the New and Old Delhi, where you can experience the real India and see it through the eyes of those in the know as you are drawn in to the sights, sounds and smells of this vibrant city. Rest your head in the height of luxury, your residence is one of Asia’s finest luxury hotels surrounded by lush gardens and it was built in celebration of India’s independence from the British. The ideal retreat to begin your Indian journey.
Then for a change in scenery, from the cosmopolitan of Delhi, jet off to north to the capital of refreshing Ladakh. We will arrange a seat on the better side of the plane where you have the most specular views and you can get a feel for what is in store – soaring mountains! This week you will spend trekking the quaint, unexplored valleys and villages on the north side of the Indus Valley. Spot yaks grazing on the lush high grasslands and bear witness to authentic village life that is essentially undisturbed and still plays host to countless ancient traditions. Our picturesque route will drive you from 3,600m to 4,300m before checking into traditional village lodges which will be your bolthole over the course of the week as you indulge in the traditional style décor that, even given the remoteness, refuses to lack comfort or luxury.
As you embark on of the many exciting excursions, you will dwell past a charming valley with local shrines and summer dwellings. Meet an honorable monk in person and interview him about nirvana and the wheel of life. Explore the rural valley on a mountain bike (only downhill if you so prefer) and stop off for a surprise picnic lunch in the meadows. Admire the culmination of monasteries before returning and being welcomed with a refreshing glass of something sweet.Feast on mouthwatering delights prepared by your very own chef and relax to the sound of the crackling fire with your choice of drop. Besides the very personable and knowledgeable guides, we think the highlight of the trip is star gazing at the under the Milky Way and watch numerous shooting stars passing by.
